Many adults around the age of 18 to 25 years experience severe pain in the lower jaw during the eruption of third molar.Due to smaller jaw size the third molars are mostly impacted and cause difficulty in opening the mouth (trismus), swelling on the face, difficulty in chewing, ear pain and swelling of gums around the impacted tooth. In such cases your dentist will suggest to take an x-ray (OPG) to see the impacted tooth and its proximity with the underneath nerve (Inferior Alveolar Nerve). An impacted wisdom tooth usually requires removal by a small surgery under local anesthesia followed by suturing. The sutures can be removed after 1 week.
